Mountain biking legend Steve Peat has signed a book deal with Sheffield publisher Vertebrate.
The book, Steve Peat: A biography, will tell the extraordinary story of Peat's journey from Sheffield plumber to top professional mountain biker, competing all over the world.
Peat said, ‘Writing this book will be a great experience and a huge memory jogger for myself, when I sit and chat about different stories all kinds of fun things spring to mind. I feel very lucky to have found mountain biking and I am excited to share my ups and down with you guys. I feel I have always tried to be honest and approachable and I hope we can get this across in the book, along with all the fun stuff.’
Peat has had a long-standing career racing downhill mountain bikes that has spanned more than twenty-five years. His many racing achievements include 2009 Downhill World Champion, 3x Downhill World Cup Champion and 2x European Champion.
In 2016, Peat raced his last UCI World Cup downhill but he continues to race local and enduro events. In 1998 he founded Royal Racing, a clothing manufacturer of race kits for cyclists through which he helps young riders achieve their goals. He has worked as a brand ambassador for Santa Cruz Syndicate since 2006 and began a rider development programme called Steve Peat Syndicate in 2010, which provides support and coaching for riders. Over the years he has taken part in various charity events raising money for cancer and, through the Steel City Downhill race, he’s also raised money for the Sheffield Wildlife Trust, to support mountain bike projects around Sheffield.
Steve Peat: A biography will be published in October 2021.
